Hi my name is Nikesha Reid and I am a senior at Classical Magnet School, in Hartford, CT. For my capstone project I decide to research and study the development of Sickle cell anemia. Sickle cell Anemia is a disease that refers to a group of inherited red blood cell disorders. It is one of the most common genetic diseases. The reason why I chose Sickle cell Anemia was because of the personal experience I shared the disease. In 2002 a very close friend of the family, passed away from Sickle cell Anemia. It was at that time that I was intrigued by the disease.
In my research I have gained a better understanding of what Sickle cell anemia is about, also what it is capable of doing to the human body. In my research I have learned about the red blood cells and the containment that it lacks, to make a normal red blood cell. In my produce of my capstone I have had assistance from a biology teacher, I've done interview with actually Sickle cell Anemia patients, have read books, and read articles online.
On this website it will tell you about what Sickle cell Anemia is, history, how you get Sickle cell anemia, how it affects people lives, how it would be treated or held under control, and what is the difference between Sickle cell anemia and Sickle cell trait. For instance, I will share the pain and morals of Sickle cell anemia that not everyone really knows about or could even relate to this disease.
